This Apricot-Kissed Hair Color Is the Perfect Transition for Blondes This Fall

When we think about transitioning hair colors for fall, we tend to think about going darker. Glossy espresso shades and rich copper hues dominate most moodboards, but this year there’s a new popular player—apricot glazed blonde. The strawberry blonde-esque hair color bridges the lightness of summer with the orange twist that we love come fall. Think: Lindsay Lohan’s transition from her Freakier Friday red to her softer peach blonde shade.

“This is a perfect way to restore shine to post-summer, dehydrated blonde hair while experimenting with hints of ginger without stepping too far out of your comfort zone,” says professional colorist and Director of Education at R+COLOR Renée Valerie. “As it fades, it softens into a creamy, luminous tone that’s equally beautiful.”

What is the apricot glazed blonde hair color?

“Apricot glazed blonde is really a modern take on a soft strawberry blonde,” says celebrity colorist and Schwarzkopf Global color expert Jonathan Colombini. “This shade blends warm golden tones with a hint of soft peach undertones to create a radiant, sunlit glow,” says professional colorist Jenn Wolf, who notes it’s a perfect shade for anyone those that want warmth without any brassy yellow hues.

How to get apricot glazed blonde hair

To get this trending hair color in the salon, be sure to bring accurate photo examples of the shade you’re going for to show your colorist, especially because the amount of copper can vary. It can’t hurt to have a pro at the helm to get that perfect apricot kissed blonde shade. Valerie says her favorite formula for getting the look is R+COLOR HYPERMATIC Demi-Permanent Liquid Hair Color in shades MIDAS (G9) blended with TWENTY FOUR K (GC8). However, this would, vary depending on your colorist and your personal starting hair color. “For anyone transitioning from a lighter, cooler blonde, I recommend a gloss application to achieve this shade,” in addition to adding color, suggests Valerie.

If you want to DIY the shade, you’re in luck because Schwarzkopf Keratin Blonde launched Apricot Blonde ($12) this year, “which was perfect timing to get ready for the apricot glazed blonde hair trend that you will be seeing all season long,” says Colombini. “It gives you that dimensional, warm blonde right in your own bathroom,” he adds. “Just follow the instructions, apply the color and you’ll have that fresh, updated strawberry blonde look in no time.”

Whether you achieve apricot glazed blonde in the salon or at home, you’ll have some upkeep on your hands. To maintain the color and shine, Wolf recommends using a color-safe shampoo and getting a peach or gold gloss every six to eight weeks to help keep the vibrancy alive.
