Princess Diana’s Most Iconic Haircut Is Trending Again, According to Top Stylists

The People’s Princess is having a very modern beauty moment. According to new Google trend analysis from Fresha, the world’s leading beauty and wellness booking platform, searches for “Princess Diana hair” have surged to more than 10,000 in the last month, a massive 155% jump year-over-year.

It’s an unmistakable sign: After seasons of air-dry minimalism and intentionally “undone” texture dominating TikTok feeds, structured strands are in. “Diana’s haircut has become the blueprint for people wanting volume, shape and proper styling again,” says Danielle Louise, a hairstylist on the Fresha app. “Clients aren’t bringing in photos for nostalgia—they want that soft feathering, that lift at the crown, that healthy blonde. It feels classic, but still incredibly modern.”

Trend data shows a steady rise in interest since early 2024, evolving from a quiet ripple to a full-blown revival. With more than a year of upward momentum, UK salons are seeing a notable wave of clients requesting the look—something stylists are calling a “soft power” aesthetic that’s polished, shaped and quietly confident.

To get the color right, stylists recommend requesting a creamy, clean blonde with subtle warm lowlights and fine, face-brightening highlights around the hairline. A softly blended root shadow keeps the finish modern and seamless, while a gloss or toner maintains Diana’s signature brightness without slipping into brassiness.

For the cut, shape is everything. Clients should ask for short to mid-length graduated layers to build volume, feathered ends for movement, a sweeping side fringe that blends into the top layers and a rounded, intentionally sculpted silhouette—not sharp, choppy, or overly long. “The silhouette is everything,” Louise stresses. “If the layers are too long or too blunt, you lose that signature Diana movement.”

Blow-drying is essential to the final look. A large round brush, hair dried away from the face, added lift at the crown, and lightweight volumizing products help create the airy movement that defined Diana’s style. Heavy creams are a no-go, Louise says, while mousse and volumizing sprays are key to give “hold without weight.”

And, above all, maintenance remains classic: Louise recommends trims every six to eight weeks to preserve the shape, and a monthly gloss treatment to keep the blonde vibrant and dimensional.
