The Rich Hair Colors We’re Going to See Everywhere This Winter

Winter is coming, and with it, fresh hair colors. Wondering what shades we’ll be seeing a ton of this season? The experts predict people will be leaning into richer shades. “While beachy/natural hair is always pretty, we are seeing a slight elevation and more of a refined, luxurious feel,” says professional colorist Ian McCabe, who notes that brunettes are continuing to reign supreme.

Cool, Deep Brown

“Rich, deep brown shades are beautiful for the winter and work for so many skin tones,” says celebrity hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos. “When paired with a gloss, these deep brown shades are very striking,” he adds, noting he likes to use L’Oreal Paris Le Color Gloss ($10) to make the color look its best.

24k Golden Copper/Cinnamon Toast

Vice President of Color Development at R+COLOR, Richy Kandasamy, says this enchanting color, also sometimes referred to as Sunset Copper, has been on his radar lately. “This shade is a rich, warm golden copper with a modern twist that elevates the color, adding elegance and sophistication.”

Caramel Highlights

Giannetos loves the way caramel highlights look on dark brown hair, and he thinks we’ll see a lot of that this winter. “Face-framing caramel highlights add warmth and dimension to the hair,” he notes.

Rich Tones

“I think really rich tones, whether warm or more neutral, will be a big trend. I’m definitely seeing a lot of people favor the warmer, more golden tones,” says McCabe. “Even blondes are slightly softening the contrast. I think slightly bumping the base color or softening the tone to be slightly deeper or richer is common across the board.”
